Top 5 Winter Lipsticks

posted in: BEAUTY, MAKEUP | 6

It’s been three years since I wrote my Top 5 Winter Lipticks post (cringe with me at the quality), and ages since my last Top 5 post in general! I’ve got some brand new favourites to share with you for the season!

I’ve concentrated on lipsticks this time around instead of lip care, with a range of matte and hydrating lipsticks. You can definitely see the change in my colour preferences recently too, with less dark plums and more wearable nudes.

We’ll start with the most affordable of the bunch – Essence Long Lasting Lipstick in Cool Nude (RRP $4.70). Can you believe this beauty is under $5? This creamy lipstick has a purple undertone, and I love to think of this as a nude plum. While it says it’s long lasting, as with most creamy lipsticks it only lasts a few hours without eating. It still makes the cut because of it’s amazing colour, eye popping price and great scent!

Next up is a cult favourite, Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lip Colour in Touch of Spice (RRP $17.95). This bold colour is a medium-dark rosy plum, with a slightly warm undertone. I would say the finish is more similar to MAC’s satin finish that matte, which makes sense as this is meant to be a “creamy matte”. It doesn’t feeling drying on the lips and the longevity is also pretty great.

The first of the matte liquids, though NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Amsterdam (RRP $12.95) is really more of a mousse. This lip cream says it’s meant to be a true red, though I find it pulls slightly warm on my skin tone. It has great coverage and is SO comfortable to wear, not drying at all.

Next, we move into liquid to matte lipsticks! The first being the ever coveted Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Posh Spice (RRP 18USD). You can read all my thoughts on this lipstick in my review. While a greige (grey-beige) colour may not be for everyone, I personally love this colour. It’s a little different to your regular nude, and is bound to make an impression.

Lastly, Australis Velourlips are a long time favourite of mine in terms of matte lipsticks, so when they the released their Limited Edition Gems Collection, I jumped at getting my hands on them! Probably the most wearable out of the four shades is the grey shade Quartz & All (RRP $10.95). I personally think they should release this shade in their permanent collection because it’s amazing! The perfect stony grey. While the Velourlips can be a little drying, I find them comfortable enough to wear for a night.

I was going to pick up Maybelline’s Touch Of Spice when I was overseas a while back but weirdly they don’t fully seal their lipsticks like we do in Aus so I passed, definitely going to pick that lipstick up at Priceline now though! The swatch has sold me.
