My Goals for 2017 – Update

posted in: LIFESTYLE, PERSONAL | 16

Something I like to do mid-year is check in with my goals for the year and see how they are tracking. Sometimes this can be a great feeling – look how far I’ve come! And sometimes, it can be an awful feeling – why did I eat all those doughnuts???

But, there’s still time before 2017 comes to a close. Here’s a run down of where I am currently at with my goals for 2017.

Gym

This went okay for a while! I was steadily going to the gym for a solid eight weeks at the beginning of the year. However, I then travelled to Japan, and things got a bit too hard. At the end of May, I made it my mission to get back to the gym, and I’m three weeks strong of consistent exercise again. The key is to never stop going, and to always find a reason to move. It’s way easier to be consistent then it is to get back on that horse dozens of times.

Blog

Another minor fail here. Again, I was really consistent with my blogging and social media channel work at the beginning of the year, and then waned during the hardest months this year – March and April (you can find out why here). I got my second wind and some new inspiration with my new love of cruelty free beauty and a few new subjects that I want to touch on here. I’m also planning on tweaking things like my theme and overall feel for my blog, which is usually something I do every 18 months or so. If you’re a blogger, how often do you update your theme? Or do you like to keep it pretty classic?

Hair

Finally a success! I didn’t touch the bleach in 2017. Instead I opted for a LOT of coconut oil treatments (which kinda helped) and then had a big chop and a colour just recently. My amazing hairdresser Naomi of My Hair Haven (if you are in the Brisbane area definitely look her up!) helped me colour match my natural root colour and then added a little warmth. As I have cool toned skin, I sometimes find that even though my natural hair colour is cool toned, it can wash me out. We opted for some subtle Rosewood and Mushroom Pink  tones in the ends of my hair, and though I will need to go back for a touch up soon, I am excited for this new (healthier) hair chapter.

Minimalism

Another win! I am living a much more minimal lifestyle than I was just 6 months ago, with a lot of clothes, makeup and beauty supplies, and random “keepsakes” that I was holding onto for no reason. One thing I’ve learnt with me is out of sight, out of mind. I didn’t look in some drawers for about 4 months because I didn’t use anything in there. Those drawers have now been emptied. I’ve only done one post on Minimalism so far this year, but I am interested in doing more (I’ve been trying to document a little on the way). What kind of minimalism posts would you be interested in?

How are your goals tracking for 2017?

  • My goals this year were to be more productive, and blog more and I seem to be going well. I like the idea of updating the theme every 18months I might have to do that this year xx

It always feels inspiring and fresh to have a new blog theme! Even just a few little tweaks or additions can make a huge difference. 🙂

  • You’re doing so well!! You should be very proud! <3

Thanks so much T 🙂 I’ve got renewed inspiration, definitely helps out!

  • HerQuarters

I like your goals! I too would like to live a minimal lifestyle. I hoard so many products, some that I dont see myself using again. I should donate them to my family and friends 🙂
When it comes to my blog theme, I found one that I absolutely love and have had it for a year. I dont see myself changing it for a long time 🙂

    • Kate Flint

It feel very refreshing to clear out products you’re not using, like a weight is lifted! That’s awesome you’ve found a blog theme you love! I had a few different ones over the years but this recent one has stuck the longest I think. Will only be a few small changes I think 🙂

  • This is such a great idea! I am actually going well on my minimalism goals and gradually getting things under control. I’ve also been saving money because I haven’t bought much over the past few months so win-win. I am about to embark on a gym/health goal so you words are a really good way to thing of things: “It’s way easier to be consistent then it is to get back on that horse dozens of times.” Great post 🙂

It’s such a weight off to have less things isn’t it! Good luck in your gym and health goals girl, I believe in you 🙂 xxx

  • Yay! So happy for your wins! Don’t beat yourself up about the “losses” everyone needs a break sometimes! You are doing beautifully!

Thanks Jen! It’s all about concentrating on those wins and getting back on track! xx

  • I’m so keen to read about minimalism from you! We’ve been doing the Konmari method over the last year in our house.

I have changed my blog theme four times in the two and a bit years I’ve had my blog for. I really wanted a theme from Pipdig for two years of it so all my themes in the lead up to my latest were really just trying to supplement the theme I have now. I’m so glad I splurged on the pipdig theme I have though! I can’t see myself changing for a long time.

Konmari is so good! I try to incorporate a little bit everyday, but some of her things I just can’t do, like thanking your shoes at the end of the day 😛

It’s so good to invest in a theme you love! I am so happy with the graphic art I’ve chosen to invest in recently but I am just going to tweak a few features on my theme I think 🙂 Feels a little fresher. Thanks for reading Maddie! x

  • I did the same thing with the gym! I went to Japan and just couldn’t get back into the swing of things when I got home!
Best of luck for the last 6 months babe, you’ll smash these!

It’s so annoying when that happens, it can take me a month to “get over” a holiday sometimes! Thanks for the well wishes! Hope you smash your upcoming goals too girl xx

  • Such a great idea for a post. I can’t even remember what my goals were. I know 2 were being consistent at the gym and then read 2 books a month. I’m kinda failing at both but I am reading MORE…. Need to get back to the gym consistently though haha

I’ve tried to read books more for years and it just never happens haha! I go through phases of reading every book I can, to not reading for months. Frustrating!
