If you’ve read my last catch up, you’ll know that I have been on some antibiotics for my skin called Doxycycline. One of the lovely side effects of this course of antibiotics is skin sensitivity. For the first two weeks I couldn’t even wear makeup or use anything on my skin without itching and burning. Thankfully this has since subsided.
However, my skin is still more sensitive than it has been in the past. As a result, I’ve crafted a gentle winter skin care routine that works a little better with my current skin situation.
Starting with removal of makeup, I’ve been using Natural Instinct Hydrating Cleansing Facial Wipes (RRP $7.99). These wipes are enriched with rose hip oil and aloe vera, making it super gentle on the skin and is free from any mineral oils, which wreak havoc on my skin type. These wipes are also cruelty free, vegan and happen to be great at removing my makeup even when I’m super tired at night.
I’ve been switching up between two different cleansers of late. The Nuori Vital Foaming Cleanser (RRP $50.00) is great for when I want my skin extra clean, and the RosehipPLUS Organic Daily Cream Cleanser (RRP $16.95) for when I need extra hydration and if my skin is feeling extra sensitive. Both of these cleansers vegan and cruelty free as well, huge ticks in my book.
A new addition to my routine is the nip+fab Kale Fix Protecting Shot (RRP $69.95) which is a skin treatment that protects your skin from atmospheric pollution. It smells great – kind of like aloe vera – and is chock full of vitamins like B5, C and E. You can use this on it’s own (which is what I do) or mix it into your regular moisturiser or serum.
After a serum, I usually apply an oil (though this is purely a night time step). I mix these oils up, and sometimes do face mapping with oils (targeting specific areas with different oils) but my tried and true constant is the RosehipPLUS Rosehip Oil Roll On(RRP $14.95). I love using this around my eye area and especially on my frown lines.
At night, I love popping on a light moisturiser to help “lock in” all the goodness I just applied to myself. The Thank You Farmer True Water Light Gel Cream (RRP $53.06) is a favourite of mine because thick night creams tend to be too much for my skin and break me out – even if my skin is dehydrated. This brand hails from Korea, so you know it’s great for your skin. It is also cruelty free, and doesn’t sell to mainland China (so it’s safe for animals :D).
For day time moisturiser, and because my skin is now SUPER sensitive to sunlight, it encourages me to not miss a day with my sunscreen moisturiser of choice – Skinstitut Age Defence SPF 50+ (RRP $45.00). I mention it in my Skinstitut Review, but this product has grown on me since using it more!
