Confession Time…

posted in: LIFESTYLE, PERSONAL | 20

So guys, it’s time for me to come clean with you. In recent times, I have not been enjoying the beauty blogging world.

When I started this blog in 2013, I was SO excited about everything to do with beauty. I wanted every new release, every lipstick shade, and loved watching hours and hours of beauty gurus on YouTube. I would pore over makeup books, compare swatches to find the perfect dupe, and just go ham. Over time, and most recently, this year, I have grown disinterested in the beauty side of things. I’m not sure why, but I’ve just come to think that it’s just not me. I always have felt like a bit of a fraud in this world.

Don’t get me wrong, I am still interested in some aspects of the beauty world. At the moment I am exploring natural and DIY skincare, and I am experimenting with a few different things. I’ve got a few blog posts and projects in the works coming up that I am really excited about, but I thought I should be honest with you guys – my readers.

It’s also not to say that makeup and conventional beauty products will never appear on the blog again. I will still blog about things that I love when they come up. It’s just going to be a much smaller portion of my blog in the future.

I totally understand if this isn’t what you signed up for when you began reading my blog. Even a few months ago I was grabbing things at Priceline and Mecca Maxima, but it was just…habit. I don’t have a passion for this industry anymore, or at least, the larger part of the industry that I was focused on before.

So in short – I totally get if you want to unfollow, unsub, etc. But I can’t write about something that I’m not genuinely interested in. There will be a few posts here and there still about conventional makeup still, but it is no longer the main focus of this space. Sorry for the rawness of this blog post, but I wanted to get real with you guys before I do a big relaunch.

On a positive note, I am very excited to start blogging and sharing more about topics that I am exploring more now. You can expect more posts about veganism, minimalism, a journey into zero waste, organisation and mindfulness. I hope you stick around to read what I have to say <3

Peace and Love. x

Thanks lovely <3 I can still appreciate makeup and love seeing looks and can still be impressed by it for sure. I am SO impressed with the BYS Cosmetics palettes I just reviewed (i wrote that a few weeks ago) but it's not something I want to write about anymore.

  • Yay Kate! This is so exciting!! I kinda feel the same way, like don’t get me wrong I still love make-up, but I’ve more gravitated towards skincare lately, and even when I get MUA jobs I sometimes think “eh I just can’t be bothered”. I am also feeling that way towards blogging at the moment – hence the lack of activity anywhere.. But hopefully I can get my groove back, because I enjoy blogging immensely!!

I am the same!!! How many lipsticks can I write about? Thats why for beauty items unless paid i wont feature them.. only on my instagram i will do more beauty post! X

    • Kate Flint

Hahaha I used to happily write about hundreds of lipsticks, but it does get old quick. I applaud those who have such passion for the industry and continue on because they love it 🙂 xx

  • Loved this blog and your honesty. I think it is natural and was grow to find new passions and interests and I am definitely going to continue following as minimalism is something I have been practising more too 🙂

    • Kate Flint

Thanks so much for wanting to stick around! I plan on still supporting beauty blogs because I still enjoy reading about different things from time to time, but writing about it was very draining after a while haha 🙂 Hope the new minimalism posts I have coming up for you are interesting!

  • Lubz

I’m definitely keen on learning more about your new journey, so not going anywhere!

      Thanks so much lovely <3

  • I think we all go through this as times. I was a bit over beauty so I started to incorporate more fashion and finally I’m getting excited about blogging again! I think stay true to yourself and do what you’re passionate about. Yes you’ll lose some followers away, but what’s the point about blogging about something you’re not passionate about?

    • Kate Flint

So true, I think I gave it a good shot for a while but it’s been probably about 8 months that I’ve still had a semi focus on beauty out of habit.

  • I feel like we are going though the exact same phase right now! I am feeling a bit unsatisfied with the encouraged consumerism of the fashion blogging world and have taken a different path that doesn’t encourage buying fast fashion items every week. So I am looking forward to your new blog posts – especially you natural and DIY beauty ones!

  • I definitely understand being less interested in beauty, I have found the products that work for me, and I’m not interested in trying a lot at the moment!

I like the sound of all of the topics you’ll talk about instead!
